Transform your Wardrobe with No nonsense Tights and Leggings

This post brought to you by No nonsense. All opinions are 100% mine.

I’ve had lots of people say to me, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you wear the same outfit twice!” Well, I definitely do, but I have little tricks to help. One of the ways you can make your wardrobe appear endless is by styling things differently. For example, you can completely change the look of an outfit by adding tights and leggings, especially if they are a cool color/texture. It’s literally style made easy!

So you can imagine my excitement when I received a pair of No nonsense tights and leggings to try out. They surprised me with a pair of jean leggings (a.k.a jeggings) and opaque citron colored tights.

One of my favorite things is that No nonsense tights and leggings can be found in places like food and drug stores, so you can quickly pick something up without having to do a big shopping trip (although they are also sold in major retail stores). I put together a casual outfit and a dressier outfit for each item to show how you can completely change a look. Check it out….

No nonsense Denim Leggings

My thoughts on the jean leggings were that they are super soft and comfy. Although the size I received was a little big (I like my leggings really fitted), these definitely still worked and I was happy to see they were long enough to fit my 5’7″ frame. The length was actually perfect because as you can see, I could wear them with heels or boots. The denim color was also great and had a nice sheen that could be dressed up or down. They had a mid-rise sitting right below my belly button, and I liked how they didn’t cut me off at the waist like some other leggings (nobody wants the dreaded “muffin top!”).

One last thing is that I typically only wear leggings with long shirts, but I wanted to go “jean on jean” with my casual outfit, which happened to be a shorter shirt. I think it works because these leggings are actually pretty thick, so they kinda look like jeans without pockets. They’ don’t go “see through” when you bend down and such, so in my opinion they’re more flattering than thin leggings which can cheapen a look.

 No nonsense Tights

Ahh, what can I say…I love me a good pair of opaque tights! This color was so unique and something I probably wouldn’t have picked out myself, but I ended up really liking it because it’s so bold! I loved that the tights were really opaque and again, SUPER soft and warm. Like, “you’ve gotta feel ’em” soft.

I also loved that I could take my Summer clothes like shorts, and make them Wintery by adding these punchy tights. There’s also a bit of a control top which is nice, and the Medium was perfect for my height.

For additional style points, try keeping the rest of the outfit neutral and adding one other colorful accessory to compliment the colorful tights. Like a bright lip, bracelet, purse, or heels!

Outfit of the Day 3: Printed Pants

Hello Style Trialers! As I’m sure you can imagine, I have been busy, busy catching up and unpacking at the new house. Not to mention the holidays! But that hasn’t stopped me. I have been Style Trialing along the way, and have a lot of great posts ready for you! Including a lot more OOTDs meant for inspiration.

This OOTD is all about prints and pattern. I have always loved  prints in fashion and interior design, especially mixing patterns. Some great complimentary patterns include a free flowing type of design (i.e. floral, damask, etc) with a geometric uniform pattern (i.e. stripes, polka dots, chevron, etc), or pairing a large print with a similar mini print. While I admit mixing print on print can be a little more difficult in fashion, you can still achieve a fashion forward look by mixing a bold printed bottom with a solid or textured top.

Printed pants or patterned leggings are really trendy right now. Because I love trying new things and taking fashion risks, I wanted to find a pair that wouldn’t break the bank. I found a cool pair of patterned jeans at Forever 21, where they had a slew of printed pants under $25!

Here’s my Printed Pants OOTD:

Style Trials Instagram Printed Pants OOTD

Style Trials Printed Jeans

  • Oversized, black knit sweater – Express
  • Printed Jeans – Forever XXI
  • Layered Statement Necklace – Yard Sale find and only cost $0.50, that’s right! Score! 🙂
  • Black motorcycle boots – Target

Here’s a few other inexpensive, cool options I found for you:

The only annoying thing about printed pants/leggings is that because it’s so eye-catching, you can’t wear them on a regular basis like a normal pair of jeans. I’ve learned sometimes you just have to give in – fashion can’t always be practical (and often isn’t)! Find an inexpensive pair of patterned pants, and make the outfit different by pairing with various tops. This could be a different shirt color, texture, or even (*gasp*) attempting the print on print look.

For example, you can see I gave my outfit more of a funky vibe by pairing it with an over-sized sweater and motorcycle boots. However, I could easily make this a dressier outfit if I paired it with heels (maybe even bright colored heels, hmmmm) and a different top. The styling with these bottoms really is endless, so you can definitely wear them multiple times making the outfit look different.

Do you have a pair of printed pants or leggings? Would you try this look?

Outfit of the Day 2: Day to Night

This OOTD is kind of a 2-in-1 and has already received some great response on Style Trial’s Youtube channel! It’s a play on the “leather” trend (okay, I hate the word pleather) that’s so popular right now. Wearing the look of leather is tricky enough when incorporating it into a work appropriate outfit, but I don’t stop there. I also show how to take this sassy look from work casual to nighttime chic in a snap! I personally know it can be a challenge when working on a Friday, then having to look cute for going out directly after. This is a good example of how you can restyle an outfit to transition from day to night.

ST Outfit of the Day 2: Day to Night

  • Pleather pleated skirt – Forever 21
  • “Bonjour” Tank Top – H&M
  • Gray knit sweater – Express
  • Tory Burch Black Reva Ballet Flats with Gold Buckle
  • Stella & Dot Gold Stacking Bracelets
  • Suede black booties – Payless
  • Red Lipstick Tutorial
  • Necklace – White House Black Market
  • Hairstyle – Bun Tutorial

The key is pre-planning before you leave so you can effectively layer clothes (i.e. Bonjour tank top under work sweater), plus pack anything for the transition before you leave the house. As the video shows, I’d suggest these things so you can pack light and maybe even fit everything in your purse:

  1. Punchy lip color or eyeshadow (or any bolder makeup you want to apply after work
  2. Statement jewelry
  3. Shoes to dress it up or give the outfit a different feel
  4. *OPTIONAL* If the work purse just doesn’t fit with the night look, grab a small clutch too

Here’s a few full length shots:

Work Casual to begin with…

…easily mixed up for a night on the town!

Have you embraced the “look of leather,” or pleather (ek) look? What is your #1 must pack beauty or fashion item for transitioning a look from day to night?

Let’s Talk Bras! Fashion Challenges and Fixes

One of my pet peeves is not wearing the proper undergarments. So in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, we’re gonna talk bras!

I’ve come across fashion challenges like “what kind of bra do I wear with this weird cutout dress thingy,” and have figured out the best up-top solutions to common girl problems. Why? Because wearing the wrong bra can put a damper on your entire outfit, but wearing the correct bra will make the outfit seamless. Now I’m not knocking the exposed bra as a trend, because if you’re trying to make a statement like Carrie Bradshaw on Sex & the City, then do just that. And I do like the sheer top with exposed bra trend, but that’s obviously on purpose so it’s not the same.

Photo rights: style.catalogs.com

If you’re not attempting to expose your straps on purpose and it doesn’t enhance the outfit, then it’s just comes off as sloppy. Here’s the most common fashion challenges and fixes to avoid a fashion faux pas.

Challenge 1: The Thin White T-Shirt

The Bra Fix

In thin shirts (even if it’s white), a white bra can stand out just as bad as a bright colored one. The trick is to get the bra in a nude color that closely matches your skin tone, and it will blend seamlessly especially when you wear white. Some places, like Victoria’s Secret, carry bras in multiple nude colors so you can get a close match.

The other part to this is having just a basic, seamless bra with no bells and whistles. You don’t want lace, patterns, or other embellishments (at least not on the cups) because that will show through and it will look like you have lumpy boobs. This VS Showstopper Demi Bra is a great example of what to wear, and I especially like the satiny fabric. Cotton bras tend to cling to your shirt, so when wearing a thin t-shirt I’ve found it’s better with a slick bra to avoid the cling.

Challenge 2: Exposed Back and Cutouts

The Bra Fix

I fondly call this backless Ultralite Nubra my “sticky boobs.” They have an adhesive that sticks to your skin without leaving any residue, and can be reused several times. You can even wash it lightly and it will stay sticky for more uses, until it eventually wears out.

The Nubra comes in nude and black, and works for a ton of tricky fashion situations. This has helped me with backless shirts/dresses, sheer or lace backed tops, and outfits with interesting cutouts. I do want to advise not to wear it instances where you’ll be really sweaty for a long period of time. I live in Florida, and found in those situations the “sticky boobs” turn into “slippery boobs.”

Challenge 3: Taking the Plunge

The Bra Fix

Love the plunge neckline but scared “the girls” will fall out? These tools will help prevent a potentially embarrassing situation. Since you can’t wear a normal bra or even Nubra because of the front plunge, you can use Braza Silicone Gel Petals  . They just adhere to that area to help smooth things out so it doesn’t look like you’re bra-less. The other key tool is Hollywood Fashion Tape. You can use fashion tape for lots of things, and it’s basically double sided sticky tape that works with most fabric. Just tape the inside of the neckline and secure the fabric to your skin. Viola! No slippage there. With this combination of fashion tools, you will be well equipped to take the plunge.

What to Wear to a Concert #iHeartRadio

In case you didn’t see my excitement on Twitter and Facebook, I have some BIG news! I won a trip to the #iHeartRadio Music Festival, in LAS VEGAS!!! OMG, right?

It happened last month  when I was listening to Johnny’s House on the radio (the morning show) on XL 106.7. It was a nationwide contest, and I texted the keyword to be randomly selected as the winner!

The text that won me a trip to the #iheartradio Music Festival in Las Vegas! Everyone who texted in received this response that I won!

It was like winning the lottery! The Hubby and I love Vegas to begin with, and this was going to be such a huge, iconic concert already sold out to the public. I couldn’t believe it! You can actually hear my voice in this promo sound clip created by #iheartradio! I’m in there twice. Did you hear it? Kinda a fun game. On top of that, Johnny’s House interviewed me on the radio about winning, which was an awesome experience!

The concert was last weekend (Sept. 21st and 22nd), and was held at the MGM Grand hotel. My prize included a trip for two (yay, Hubby got to go) with airfare, transportation to the hotel, 2 nights at the MGM Grand, and 2 tickets to the festival for each night.

When we got to Vegas, there was a person holding a sign for the winners to get to their bus. The bus took us to our hotel VIP style! 🙂

Is it obvious that’s normally not “how I roll”? I started a frenzy of photos with other winners after this. Poor guy holding the sign!

They specially wrapped the bus for us! So cool!

The MGM Grand is an awesome hotel on the Vegas strip, and it was exceptionally great because I could just get ready, then head downstairs and not worry about taxis. Here’s a pic of the room…

After a 5 hour 6 am flight, I celebrated by doing a running belly flop onto the giant bed in our room. It had to be done.

So now I was tasked with what the heck to wear to this concert! I learned that we had actual seats, so to me that translated into being able to wear heels because I wouldn’t have to stand the whole time. Otherwise, I would have planned my entire outfit around wearing flat shoes.  That’s definitely something for you to consider when going to a concert, because the worst thing is being uncomfortable and not being able to enjoy the show!

First night my inspiration was “Glam meet Rock.”

NIGHT 1: Glam Meets Rock

I tried to take a creative shot with the city in the background!

Glam meets Rock!

To achieve this look, simply mix really delicate, feminine motifs (i.e. lace, ribbons, sheer, sparkle, shine) with harsher, masculine motifs (i.e. boots, studs, spikes, denim).

My second look was more girly. I was going for “Jenny from Forrest Gump in the 70’s” in a modern way. LOL, I know. In this case I found the shirt as initial inspiration, which led me to that vision.

Night 2: Modern 70’s Disco Queen

Modern 70’s Disco Look

I love how the sequins on this top are really small and not chunky.

To do this, I found my one key piece that screamed modern 70’s, the sequined gold top, then worked around that. The picture doesn’t really do it justice, but I got a lot of compliments and felt pretty in this outfit. Also, my brown smokey eye went perfect with both looks!

And of course I couldn’t leave you without some awesome pics of the concert! My highlights of the concert were the No Doubt/Pink duet of “Just a Girl,” Pink flying over the crowd while flipping and singing, Greenday freaking out and smashing their guitars, the surprise visit from Prince, Taylor Swift being adorable with her banjo, Aerosmith singing “Cryin’,” and surprise presenters Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, and Ryan Seacrest. And that’s just some of the highlights! Honestly, it just kept getting better and better as there were a TON of surprises.

The iheartradio 2012 Lineup!

ALL of Vegas was decked out in iHeartRadio promotions, especially the MGM Grand!

Getting ready to head into the concert the first night!

Counting down to the start of the show!

Gwen Stefani and Pink’s duet to “Just a Girl.”

Everyone got glow bracelets. They automatically lit up to the music beats!

Enrique Iglesias performance at the iHeartRadio music festival.

The arena looked AWESOME for DeadMau5!

Taylor Swift being adorbs.

Pink literally flew over the audience and did flips. You’ve gotta see this!

Bon Jovi “It’s My Life” performance at the iHeartRadio Music Festival.

Before Billie Joe Armstrong’s rant at the iHeartRadio music festival.

Shortly after this pic, we snuck into the lower level! Shhh! 🙂

You can see more and professional iHeartRadio Music Festival 2012 pictures here. It was definitely the trip of a lifetime, and I’m so thankful I got that opportunity!

Sad you missed it? Don’t worry! You can catch the premier of the concert airing on TV (CW network) Monday, October 1st from  8:00 pm – 10:00 pm.

So I’ll leave you with this….

What do you like to wear to concerts? Which of my looks do you like the best?

How to do a Ponytail with a Twist!

This cool hairstyle tutorial is inspired by the Fendi runway show during New York Fashion week earlier this year. I LOVED the model’s twisted ponytail hairstyle! It would work on long or medium length hair (short hair, you can definitely do a variation of this or add in clip-in extensions), straight or curly. You can also take these tips and create new hairstyle variations.

I spotted the ‘do while reading my Glamour magazine and thought, “What a creative way to make a ponytail more interesting and modern!” Something I definitely wanted to attempt myself, and it looks awesome! In my video, I go through step-by-step instructions on how to achieve a similar ponytail twisted hairstyle. My version is easy for anyone to do on their own hair, so give it a try! I also mention little tips and tricks throughout (especially helpful if you have layers), so make sure to watch the whole thing and let me know what you think!

How to do the Fendi Runway Ponytail Twist Hairstyle

I love braids and twisting hair for Fall, so it’s great for the season (or really anytime of the year). I also love how this hairstyle works with a range of styles, from boho to sleek and modern. For extra style flair, try incorporating some fun hair accessories like this!

Cruise and Beach Vacation Essentials – Stock Up On End of Summer Sales!

Cruises, beaches, tropical resorts! You’re probably wondering why I’m doing this post going into Fall, huh? In my attempt to hang onto the last bits of Summer, I actually have good reasoning beyond that. Here’s why!

  1. Summer is ending so now is the time to find great stuff on clearance and stock up for next year.
  2. I live in Florida so it’s still 90+ degree beach weather!
  3. Most importantly, my husband Gary and I are celebrating our 1 year wedding anniversary NEXT WEEK (yayyy!) on an 8-day Carnival cruise! SOO EXCITED!!! 🙂 While cruises are definitely top of my mind right now, I actually know a lot of other people who are going/just went on a cruise too. Makes sense because you can find great deals on cruises in the off-season.

Whatever the case, my universal problem with traveling has always been packing because, let’s face it, I pack way too much….I like options! So I thought long and hard to narrow the essential must-have pieces for a cruise or really any other beachy, tropical getaway. You can use this as a packing guide, or inspiration for items to hunt during these end-of-season sales.

CRUISE WEAR

Obviously it doesn’t have to be these exact pieces, but this is a general idea of basics to include. A few tank tops and shorts, a casual sundress, a swimsuit coverup, a nicer outfit you can dress up or down (like the romper), comfy flip flops, and dressier shoes that still look casual (platform wedges).

You’ll want to accessorize with a bag that is fairly neutral so you can wear it with everything, cool sunglasses, and a straw beach hat. Of course you’ll need a few bikini options, and I’d suggest mix-and-match bikinis so you can get more looks out of less pieces. Victoria’s Secret is actually having an end-of season sale right now on their swimwear, so I’d suggest checking it out! I just stocked up.

WHAT’S IN MY CRUISE BEAUTY BAG

If you’re like me and don’t want to be pale in a bikini, you should checkout the Style Trials Bronze Skin Series for the BEST Self tanners.

I just want to leave you with one last thing. Have a great Labor Day weekend, and think of me while I’M ON A BOAT!

Yeeeep, I just went there. 🙂
